How to Care for Leopard Geckos

Housing - Leopard Geckos can be housed in tubs or aquariums. I recommend aquariums because they are easy to heat, clean, and it is  just better for your leopard gecko. 1 adult Leopard Gecko will thrive in a 10 gallon tank. 2 Leopard Geckos will live together in a 20 gallon long tank, though they prefer to live alone. The tank should have 2 hide boxes, one on the warm side, and one on the cool side of the tank. During shedding a humid hide should be added to the tank to ensure proper shedding.
Lighting and Heating - Leopard Geckos are nocturnal so you will not have to buy a UVA/UVB light for them. Though there are many ways to heat a Leopard Gecko's tank, the easiest is to buy a reptile heat pad and put it on the warm side of the tank, if you are using a tub use heat tape.
Food and Water - Leopard Geckos eat a variety of small insects including, crickets, wax worms, meal worms, and roaches. Crickets should be a leopard geckos staple diet, meal worms should be in the tank at all times in a small bowl, and wax worms should be given as a treat because they are high in fat, they should only be fed once every week or two. Adults can also be fed pinkie mice, but not often, maybe once every month or two. They too are high in fat. Because Leopard Geckos are nocturnal they do not get the calcium they need, so they're food must be supplemented or "dusted" with calcium every feeding for juveniles and every feeding for adults, but every couple feedings give them crickets that aren't dusted with calcium. Normal calcium without D3 should be used, and use calcium with D3 twice a week. There should be a small bowl with calcium without D3 in the Leopard Geckos tank at all times.  Juveniles should be fed everyday and Adults every other day. A shallow water bowl should also be kept in the tank at all times and changed daily.
Temperature - The temp. on the warm side of the tank (the side w/ the heat pad) should be around 85 - 90 degrees and the cool side should be around 80 degrees, never let the temp go below 75 degrees.
Substrate - The safest and easiest substrate to clean is paper towel. Make sure the paper towel is unbleached so your Leopard Gecko will not get poisoned. Do not use any type of loose substrate such as sand, crushed walnuts, or coconut fiber, although it's marketed as safe for your Leopard Gecko if ingested a Leopard Gecko can become impacted and die. Safe substrates are paper towel, tile, repti carpet, and newspaper.
